A Wo-Man’s Voice

Good morning my friend.  I hope you are having a great day. This morning as I sit here in my office having my coffee while listening to my worship music, I want to talk to you about the word “Sensitive” people can be sensitive to light, or have sensitive skin. But the sensitive I want to talk about is what it says in Roman 12:15 says “rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. If we can be happy for ourselves why aren’t we displaying this same happiness and joy for someone else? When a person has lost a love one we find it hard to offer comfort, when they are rejoicing we still find it hard, why is that? Could it be that we are not sensitive towards others unless it is us? The scripture is telling us that we must be sensitive towards others and it does not mean within our own circle of friends.

Some people will say that they find it hard to reach out to a complete stranger, I must say I disagree with that because scripture tells us we must it’s not up for debt. As a human being how can anyone look at someone and see them hurting and not be moved to reach out to them.Have our hearts become so callous and hard that we only care about our own? The world is cold and it serves its own self, but aren’t we as children of God are to be different then the world? Many people are hurting and we see them everyday on our jobs, the market place, and yet we will turn our heads and pretend we did not see it; hoping that someone else will help them. I don’t know about you guys but I never been one to walk away from seeing a person hurting.

When I am out and I pass someone who seems upset or bothered I always stop and ask them “are you alright” many of the responses I get from them is no I am not okay, some will say thank you for stopping, some will not say nothing at all. but no matter what the responds is I helped them. My husband the first time he saw me do this he was shocked he asked me “how did you know” I said because I am sensitive towards people. Now when we are out and he sees me doing this he engage in helping as well.

Let’s be sensitive towards people because God was sensitive when He sent His Only Son to Die for Us!

Thank you for reminding me how important it is to be sensitive to others and their feelings. I also am a sensitive person, not surprising because I come from sensitive stalk, and it is not something that I have always enjoyed about myself. But now I feel inspired to celebrate it. Thanks!

Desiray! I can see by your article that you have a very kind heart. Many years ago when I was at a very low point in my life a stranger noticed that I was struggling. This person, I will call an ANGEL, did not know me,but noticed something while I was working out at the gym. She offered me time and kindness, like yourself. I look back now and call this empathy. So often we do not understand another unless we too have walked that road. I now know that if I listen closely to God he will always show me how to provide kindness, care, comfort and empathy to someone who may be in need. I see this so much with the elderly who are just aging and need special time and care. Thank you for your article. Sensitivity is a beautiful quality.

Wonderful reminder. Even when people don’t say anything, we are ministering to them and it’s always good to take a moment and be there for someone.

    Desiray!

what an awesome article. I am with you, I stop and ask people if they are ok, I help people when they drop things, I’ll linger at a door long enough to hold it open for someone trailing behind me.

I have been through the past few years with my friend who lost her husband, quite suddenly and quite young. What I discovered is that imagining what I would want, and offering that … is a great way to offer help. If you say what can I do? most people don’t know how to respond to that …. but if you say, can I bring in your mail?, can I make you dinner?, can we go for a walk? can I go through papers with you? can I be in the room while you go through his things? can I sit by you while you make calls? can I pick up your children…. just imagine the person’s day, and what is suddenly hard .. and then just get in there and start doing it, or offering to do it ….. and be very specific ….. it does make all the difference …

    great post!

  6. Enjoyed reading this piece. I used to find it hard when people lost loved ones, but I’ve lost my share of my own, and I tend to reach out and do my best to comfort them. However, I realize that losing loved ones is the hardest thing in life a person goes through and sometimes there’s not really much you can say. So, I find sharing favorite Bible verses and stories help at times. I also find that writing about your loss helps. I thank God I do feel for others and understand what they’re going through, but I wasn’t always the way I am now. It took my going through painful experiences myself so I could identify and relate to what they were going through. Perhaps that’s why God allows us all to experience pain. So, we can be better prepared to help one another. God bless. Barb

I want to thank all of you so much for your comments to my blog. It means more to me then you know..to be able to write something that touches another person is truly a blessing from God…without Him inspiring me I could never write the blogs that I do…You guys have shared some very personal moments in your life with me in response to the blog and for that I know you all have been healed from it and now you can minister to others who come in your path. May you all continue in doing what God has called you to do and may you show God’s love to every person you meet. God bless you.

  8. Beautiful post! Perhaps if we spent more time with the author of love (God), we’d be more sensitive to others.

Father, when I let pride take up residence in my heart, I can be so blind to the needs of others, especially those who are more difficult to love. I am so thankful that You did not feel that way toward me, one of the most difficult people of all to love. I praise You for the grace and love You have given me. Help me to be an instrument of that love and grace in the lives of those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If I am not careful, I automatically gravitate to those who are easy to love and easy to serve. I have to remind myself that Jesus Christ came for broken people like me. I am not always easy to love . . . .

    • Oh Ginny… your prayer is a humble reminder for all of us who are a little harder to understand, accept, and love. Yes, Jesus came for the broken and for those who don’t fit the mold quite as easily as others. You are not alone in your prayers. Thank goodness that Jesus died for the broken otherwise His death would have been in vain and salvation would have eluded us.
