Do you have a favourite chair in your home? Do you usually have the tendency to sit in the same kind of chair wherever you go? I do!
Whenever I visit in other people’s homes, one of the first things I do after the initial niceties are out-of-the-way is look for the spot where I am going to sit. I scan the room with hopeful anticipation that I will find a rocking chair or glider. To me, this kind of chair is both comfortable and comforting. In new and awkward situations, when I have the opportunity to sit on one, it takes the edge off the moment as the rocking motion brings its soothing relief to me.
It is very hard for me to start my day without a short stint on my rocking chair. It sets the pace for the whole day, as I find my source of peace and contentment in this simplest of ways. It is during this time on my rocking chair that I listen to the softest of music and feel so inspired. This is my time, this is my special spot.
When on holidays or visiting with family and friends when I’m “off my rocker” because they don’t have one, I always feel a tiny absence in my life. I can’t be the only one that feels this way. What about you? Do you miss the comfort of your special chair? Please don’t tell me that you don’t have one even if it isn’t a rocker/glider. I will be very surprised if you don’t!

This blog brought a smile to my face. My favorite spot in the house is a recliner we got from my mother. I do like to sit on the sofa with my husband but it’s not as comfy as my recliner.

All my life I have wanted a rocking chair. I still don’t have one, but you’re post has made me even more determined to get one. I have always known that it can’t be just any old rocker though, and I am sure I will know it as soon as I see it.
But for now I don’t have a particular chair to rest in, although my family all sit in the same chair at the dinner table every night. The few times when we have had visitors and have been unable to sit in our normal places we all feel a little bit uneasy.
Does this count? 🙂

It sure does count that you sit in the same chair at the dinner table every night, but I like your idea of aspiring to find the perfect rocking chair for yourself.

I usually use the couch and the DH uses the lounge chair. I haven’t found a lounge chair yet that sits in the right spot for my back, reclined or not. The couch has lots more room anyway. I put some pills on the side, lay down and watch TV and often end up asleep.

Love the blog sis, I have a favorite chair in my house which is my sofa, it’s funny you blog about this because about two months ago my hubby said to me why do you always sit in the same place when we watch tv together? i explained I love this side of the sofa, not sure as to why I do but I always sit in same spot.
It’s amazing how we get so use to the little things..

I totally have a favorite spot. It’s the right edge side of my couch. So funny, even last night at dinner I was talking about that … I call it my Command and Control Center (CaCC).
It’s where I write, it’s where I play music, watch t.v., it’s where I sit and “chillax” (as my nephew says) at the end of the day, until wireless service hit the skids, it’s where I talked on the phone ( now that is standing in the middle of the front yard NICE! .. “can you hear me now?” )
I’ve had a lot of company lately and I notice that people gravitate to my spot. So funny, when a guest claims it, I just sorta wander about wondering how exactly people think or relax in other parts of the house! I sure can’t !

The rocker sounds like a nice place to meditate. I have found peace and solitude by taking a few minutes and emptying my mind. It does not matter where I am. When I take the time to thank God for all of my blessings I am at peace. When I stop the chatter and get into the ” GAP” I am truly safe.I can understand what the rocker does for you. You are so lucky to have one!!! I just happen to have an invisible one!!!.Thanks for sharing!

Just last week I finally bought a glider. I just love it! Just as you say it is soothing. I find I wind down and focus on all I have to be grateful for and that puts a smile on my face:)

I love to rock and swing and I too find it very comforting and as you well know I usually head for it when we’re visiting with you and Fred no matter where you are! My gliider is in the den and I don’t often sit there but it is actually the most solitary place in the condo so I might just have to visit it more often but in the meantime I sit on my swing early in the morning with my coffee in hand and my music playing and I find it so peaceful! I suppose it is in all of us to be swingers and rockers at some time in our lives and I truly believe as we were carried by our Mother and as we carrued our children the rocking and swinging begins and stays with us forever!

Thanks for taking the time to relate to the “swinger” in me! You are very right…the soothing sensation of swinging to and fro probably starts in our mother’s womb. I like a rocker, but a swing outside under a small oak with a songbird was my favorite spot. Of course, I no longer have that spot. I had a certain spot on the couch that reclined and my swivel leather desk chair that I find comfortable. I also have a rocker. The swing brings me the kind of comfort you speak of 🙂 Blessings, Barb

I love a rocker, glider, or swing, probably for the same reasons as you and used a rocker and swing in Last Resort 🙂 For watching TV with hubby, our sofa has two end recliners, and he’s on one, and I’m on the other usually with a dog between us 🙂 Blessings, BJ
