A Woman's Voice

MIRACLE MONDAY ~ Standing On Your Tiptoes ~ May 30, 2011

Only as high as I reach can I grow,

Only as far as I can seek can I go,

Only as deep as I can look can I see,

Only as much as I dream can I be.

Some things are just worth repeating…this is one of them. There comes a time in life when we must learn to reach out in order to accomplish our dreams. There may be a niggling inside us that is yet to be fulfilled. It doesn’t matter our age nor our stage of life…what matters is the desire to be all that we can be.  The sky’s the limit. It’s never to late to go for it!

“Surely there is grandeur in knowing that in the realm of thought, at least, you are without a chain; that you have the right to explore all heights; that they are no walls nor fences, nor prohibited places, nor sacred corners in all the vast expanse of thought…”(Robert G. Ingersoll)

INSPIRATIONAL POEMS ~ “CHRISTIANS” by Maya Angelou ~ May 29, 2011

CHRISTIANS

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I’m not shouting “I’m clean livin’.”

I’m whispering “I was lost,

Now I’m found and forgiven.”

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I don’t speak of this with pride.

I’m confessing that I stumble

and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I’m not trying to be strong.

I’m professing that I’m weak

And need His strength to carry on.

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I’m not bragging of success.

I’m admitting I have failed

And need God to clean my mess.

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I’m not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible

But, God believes I am worth it.

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I still feel the sting of pain.

I have my share of heartaches

So I call upon His name.

When I say.. “I am a Christian”

I’m not holier than thou,

I’m just a simple sinner

Who received God’s good grace, somehow

by Maya Angelou…this poem says what it truly means to be a Christian!

SPIRITUAL SATURDAY ~ Aging ~ May 28, 2011 by Charles Betts

INSPIRATIONAL POEMS

Cruel, hurtful aging

Midnight cries of sorrow

Painful loss of friends

Passing long before

I was willing they should go

Cruel, hurtful aging

Health, memories

Joyful thoughts of youth

Cannot be recalled

Like the things I used to know

Cruel, hurtful aging

Disdain replacing respect

Once sought-for advice

Now mere musings

Or rantings of the disillusioned aged

Cruel, hurtful aging

A process they say

More of a gristmill

Grinding down the strong

Consumed now by rage

Cruel, hurtful aging

You are not now

Nor ever have you been

A friend to those of us

Confined to your control

Cruel, hurtful aging

To be rid of your influence

Is more than just a wish

It is a deep longing

Formed somewhere in my soul

A Poem By Charles Betts  Sept. 10th 2007

Charles…what an insightful poem. Aging is not an easy process as you have so aptly pointed out in this inspirational poem. Thanks!

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY ~ Peace in Life’s Simple Pleasures ~ May 26, 2011

My dear friend Vivian sent this message the other day. It has been an inspiration to me today as I write my article for THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY. So many people touch my life is such a positive and inspirational way that I want to share some of their beliefs and ideas with as many people as possible. This is another example of one of life’s simple pleasure.

Vivian wrote…How are you enjoying Spring? I have been spending long days outdoors working in the yard and cleaning up the gardens for Summer. I hear the birds singing and busily eating at the feeders, and wonder, who needs radios and cell phones when there is so much to enjoy in the natural world all around us? What peace there is in just melding into the world around you and doing ordinary things and realizing that “This is as good as it gets! “

When I first received this little message from Vivian, my imagination took me into my own garden and how I feel when I am there. In the Spring, as I clean up my garden with the help of my husband, I feel the exact same way as Vivian.

I get so lost in the wonder of it all that the work I am doing doesn’t feel like work at all. I look in awe as I see the bushes and trees bud and turn green almost right before my eyes. I watch in amazement as I notice “new growth” sprout from the soil after a long cold winter. I gaze at the birds and listen with pleasure to their sweet songs as they go about their daily routine. I see the empty nests in our trees and bushes and I know a new season of life has begun.

I have a little garden sign in one of my flower beds which reads “Life Began In A Garden”. Every time I read this sign, I am reminded of how close I am to Our Creator as I cultivate this little piece of earthly heaven that I call home.

Yes Vivian, “This is as good as it gets”. Thank you so much for being an inspiration to me today!

BLOG HOPPING DAY ~ One Incredible Lady ~ May 25, 2011

I would like you to meet one incredible lady. She is a fellow author and her name is Janet Perez Eckles. When I read her story, it gave me a clear vision of the meaning of being a true survivor.

Against all odds, Janet did not lose her optimistic, positive, and spirit-filled attitude that she needed in order to face what most of us can’t even imagine. I have the utmost respect for people who know how to overcome the odds and rise above the heartbreaking hardships that life has to offer. Janet is one such woman.

Please take a moment to meet  Janet Perez Eckles. Trust me. She will be such an inspiration to you when you see her positive attitude after all that she has endured. She has also managed to retain her sense of humor which adds to my admiration of her. Janet states that “God is stronger than your pain”. The way she has chosen to live her life proves it!

Please click here: http://barbarajrobinson.blogspot.com/2010/12/trials-of-today-treasures-for-tomorrow.html if you want to check out the review of Janet’s book, TRIALS OF TODAY, TREASURES FOR TOMORROW

BOOK REVIEW ~ Cruelty To Innocents ~ May 23, 2011 by Dolores Ayotte

Title: Cruelty To Innocents (The 911 Abductions)

Authors: CK Webb & DJ Weaver

Publisher: Suspense Publishing

This novel starts off with a bang. You are out of the gate so fast that it can’t help but grab your immediate attention. There’s no way that I could have ever predicted the outcome. Cruelty To Innocents is a real page turner and a book that you won’t want to miss out on.

It starts off in the small town of Aberdeen, Maryland. A typical single mother, Chloe, is having a discussion with her thirteen year old daughter Danni, on the way to the grocery store. This heated discussion is about an unchaperoned event that Chloe doesn’t want her daughter to attend. After this point is settled, Chloe and Danni enter into a grocery store and witness an older man having a massive heart attack. Chloe instinctively tries to resuscitate this dying man and while doing so her daughter mysteriously disappears. To anyone’s recollection, this is the first ever abduction to take place in this small community.

The plot of the story quickly thickens as Sloanne, Chloe’s best friend returns to Aberdeen to support her during this worrisome and frantic time. Sloanne has not been to Aberdeen for several years because of her past. She has no desire to return but her friend’s need outweighs her uneasiness. There is much intrigue and suspense to follow as Sloanne witnesses a tragic accident and meets someone from her past, an old school mate by the name of Shawn. She hardly recognizes this “ruggedly handsome” fireman who was once the “scrawny kid” she remembers from her youth.

As the novel unfolds, during another unfortunate tragedy two more young children, a set of twins, mysteriously disappear from the van they are sitting in as their parents assist in the crisis at hand. What is happening in this almost crime free town of Aberdeen?  Two mysterious abductions in a matter of days….and then there’s Simone who has been beaten to a pulp and lays in a coma.  Will she ever wake up? Will she survive her brutal attack?  Can she help identify her attacker? Are the abductions and this horrible beating connected? So many questions and so few answers. The police are on full alert. What will happen next? Sloanne is now tapping into her background as the daughter of a deceased police officer. Will she be able to get to the bottom of these unprecedented events?

Four miles away from Aberdeen, in the small community of  Havre de Grace, another mysterious abduction takes place. Sloanne along with Shawn and Chloe are putting their heads together to find the common thread in order to unravel this sadistic mystery. Every time a young girl disappears, it seems to be at the scene of some kind of emergency. Is this just a co-incidence or can they piece together this case?  Will Sloanne follow in her father’s footsteps and come up with the much-needed clues?

CK Webb and  DJ Weaver have co-authored this well-written, suspense novel with numerous twists and turns. The unknown and the desire to know more keep you riveted to every word and each and every page.  This dynamic mother-daughter duo have managed to write a book in such a way that it makes the reader feel like they are actually viewing a movie as they read it. I could mentally visualize all that was taking place making it  virtually impossible to not become part of the action. I eagerly returned to read this book time and time again in order to see what could possibly happen next as the clues unfolded to solve the mystery in “Cruelty To Innocents”.  You will not be able to put this book down.

CK Webb was born and raised in Mississippi, and dreamed of writing like the greats; Emily Bronte, Edgar Allan Poe, and Stephen King, to name a few. CK joined the US Navy and traveled the world, but eventually returned to settle down in the tiny town of Millport, Alabama. A self-proclaimed ‘reformed bad girl’, this thirty-something writer now shares her life with her husband and two beautiful children.

CK also enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and book club. Although CK delights in preying on the fears of others and enjoys killing people…thankfully she does it the legal way; in her novels. She has just completed the first two novels in the ‘Innocents’ series which she co-wrote with her best-friend and mother, DJ Weaver. CK writes in a variety of other genres.

Originally from Pascagoula, Mississippi, DJ Weaver relocated to north Mississippi in 1980. She attended Mississippi University for Woman and Mississippi State University, studying paralegalism and Human Resources Management.  DJ recently completed two books in the three-novel Innocents series, Cruelty to Innocents: The 911 Abductions and Collecting Innocents, which she co-wrote with her daughter and best friend, CK Webb.

DJ writes in a variety of genres. When she isn‘t writing, DJ develops and maintains WebbWeaver Review blog, where she reviews books and interviews published authors regularly. She serves as co-chairwoman of WebbWeaver Book Club. DJ also writes book reviews for Suspense Magazine. DJ is a 50-something year old mother and grandmother who works part-time and makes her home in Millport, Alabama.

A MAN’S VOICE ~ Words of Wisdom ~ May 22, 2011 by Charles Betts

Charles Betts is a wonderful poet and a regular contributor to my blog site. I not only enjoy his inspirational poetry, I always feel great pleasure in the comments he leaves after some of my other posts. Charles is a very gifted man who has taken his calling very seriously. Today I am posting his latest comment as food for thought on this lovely Sunday morning. His words are my gift to you. Enjoy!

Charles says…I read with interest your daughters poetry. Thank her for me for sharing her heart and being unafraid to share with the world a part of herself. It takes courage to do so and also a lot of inner awareness of who we are to just put ourselves out there for others to read and be OK with their thoughts of us. For me the big thing was to know that God was OK with who I am and what I shared. After that, even though I care how they feel, their concept of me is less important than His. Please tell her I enjoyed her poem.

Now to todays blog (referring to Thoughtful Thursday). For me, in this season of my life, a scripture that has had a huge influence on me has been the one found in Jer: 9:24&25. It goes something like this;” Let not the rich man glory in his riches or the strong man in his strength, but let him that glories, glory in this, that he knows and understands me, that I am the God that exercises loving-kindness, justice and righteousness in the earth and in these things I rejoice”

When I read this a few years ago it was like a huge lightbulb went off in my soul and I knew right away that God wanted me to join His exercise program. Especially the loving-kindness part. Like any program, the more we practise it, the better we get. I decided that I would get as good as I could and not be deterred by any opposition. Whether others knew what I was doing or not, I believed and still do, that God knew and it was between Him and I and not the ones around me.

When I saw the love God has for people and the things He tolerates in us, it became easier to treat others in a loving way. Not because we deserve His love but because He is love. So it is for me, not that others deserve any kindness but because God has put it in me and they need it.

This has been a great blessing in my life and has changed how I view others and deal with them. lt makes it so that my being who I am is not dependent on them, but on my relationship with God. As long as it is OK, I am OK.

Have a great weekend and thanks for allowing me to share with you and your readers, Charles Betts

You are most welcome Charles and thanks to you too. Have a blessed weekend and a wonderful week to follow.

SPIRITUAL SATURDAY ~ Stormy Seas ~ May 21, 2011 by Charles Betts

INSPIRATIONAL POEMS

A storm arose on Galilee

James and John were there with me

Jesus slept and did not see

The terror that came over me

A sailor, I’d seen storms before

Wind and waves had often roared

I’d helped others get to shore

This storm seemed so much more

The three of us began to think

This time we will surely sink

Jesus slept and did not blink

Our fears took us to the brink

Disciples, we wondered if we dare

Awake the Lord, our peril share

We even wondered if He cared

Nerves were raw, our souls were bared

The storm got worse, no longer brave

Humbled, we asked the Lord to save

Us all from the dark watery grave

He rebuked the wind and wave

Now I sail on in calm and peace

He caused the storm in life to cease

In troubled times I just release

It all to Him, The prince of peace

If you’re out on the sea today

Afraid that you’ll be swept away

Call on Him. Take time to pray

He still keeps the storms at bay

A Poem By Charles Betts, May 27th, 2006

Charles, it is wonderful to be reminded that Jesus is always there for us, especially during the storms of life. Oftentimes, we can only recognize His presence after the storm when we can more clearly see. Thank you for pointing out that we are never alone. Jesus answers all our prayers.

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY ~ You Asked…I Answered (part 4)~ May 19, by Dolores Ayotte

What concept or scripture is God revealing to you in this season of your life? And how is that revelation influencing your life?

The concept that God is revealing to me in this season of my life is that by learning more about myself and what caused my depression in the first place (what I refer to as getting to the root of the problem)  I have found a new image of a loving and merciful God.  I discovered that when I felt the least lovable, God actually loved me with such an abundant and unconditional love which sustained me throughout my whole ordeal.

Although, I never lost my faith, it was necessary for me to revisit some very old teachings and learn to know God in a new and healthier way.  By going back into my past to figure things out, I was able to accomplish my goal of overcoming my childhood teachings of fear and guilt.  In doing so, I was able to embrace and enhance my own healing process.  I discovered a strange kind of strength that one finds in the depth of despair.

It is in your darkest moments when you feel the true presence of God.  He is true to His word.  Most of us know the story of Footprints in the Sand.  There is not one ounce of doubt in my mind that God is there for all of us, satisfying our every need.  All we must do is admit this need.  “That man is perfect in faith who can come to God in the utter dearth of his feelings and desires, without a glow or an aspiration, with the weight of low thoughts, failure, neglects and wandering forgetfulness and say to Him, Thou Art my Refuge.”(George MacDonald)

Yes…without my faith, I would have been nothing but a sinking ship.

To be continued…please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or ask a question.

BLOG HOPPING DAY ~ Emotional Healing and the Causes of Low Self Esteem ~ May 18, 2011

In this article Darlene Ouimet says, “And I could never seem to catch even a glimpse of that key to freedom, until I took a real look at the causes of how I had come to that point in my life. What had happened to me? Why did I think I was so unimportant?  I took that chance that it might hurt. I faced the fear of what I might find. I had nothing to lose!  Looking back today I wonder if it dawned on me that I was already in SO much pain that even if it caused me more pain, it was worth taking the chance that it might also relieve the pain.  I embraced the hope for complete healing when I had my first break through in the first week of looking at the causes.”

To learn more please visit: Emotional Healing and the Causes of Low Self Esteem

Thank you once again Darlene for sharing your insights and growth as you have worked through the pain of your past.
